QUALIFYING EVENT: Best of the Basin BBQ Championship
I started my barbecuing in the back yard for friends on weekends. I work in the oilfield in west Texas so there was plenty of times for me to practice at the rig for all the rig hands. Once they started televising all the BBQ shows on TV I knew it was something I wanted to do. With the support of my wonderful wife Lacy and my family who has to eat my BBQ experiments every weekend I started competing in competitions last year. I feel i am definitely the underdog in this competition since i have been cooking for such a short time and only have a handful of cooks under my belt. I have been blessed to win grand champion and reserve grand champion in a couple competitions last year and this year. My big win so far was the Best of the Basin in Midland TX KCBS competition which qualified me for the Food World Championship and the American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas City. Slap YO Mama BBQ can’t wait to meet all the big names and compete against the best there is.
