Grandfather was a cook on a 3 mast sail ship, and when I was a kid he taught me to bake bread. I did a majority of the cooking in my household as a single parent. As a stress relief from my career job as a systems analyst I volunteered in our church kitchen where we serve family style meals each week. When I remarried 9 years ago my wife was a food sport junkie and she started competing in the WFC in 2014. She competed by herself that year and the next year I joined her as her sous chef. In 2017 we won 1st place in the Seafood category. In 2018 I was encouraged to compete in the Grand Throwdown by my wife and one of my good friends Nancy Manlove. I won the Grandpa portion and here I am having to compete against my wife in 2019. I have supported the WFC as a cheferee for 3 years, and one interesting aspect of my life that I rarely share is that I was a radio operator for Air Force One for two presidents.
