HEAD COOK: Alex Campos

COMPETITION: World Invitational Steak Championship - SCA

I started cooking when I was about 6 or 7 years old. Helping my mom prepare family meals & baking for the holidays. Most of the best memories were cooking with her back then. She thought me a lot. Years have gone by and I contemplated going to culinary school but never did. I've always thought about what kind of cook I would have become if I followed that route. The itch to cook for people has always been there. I always got enjoyment in watching people eat the food I prepare. I consider myself a great home cook. While watching food TV shows I told my self I could do that and decided to start a competition team... Moon River barbeque started as an “armchair “barbeque team. While enthralled in watching BBQ Pitmasters on TV, we said to ourselves… we can do that (not realizing what it actually takes to cook in a pro-BBQ contest). We finally entered our 1st contest, the NJ State barbeque championship in Wildwood NJ back in 2013. Our results were stellar, we finished 9th overall in our 1st BBQ contest (5th in pork, 5th in chicken 8th in Brisket) we caught the BBQ bug (or curse) after those results. Naturally, as the food sports world started to expand in the northeast. The SCA eventually made its way to the up to NJ. Competing in my 2nd ever SCA event ... I won and punched my ticket to the world foods. As they say…. the rest is history.
