2013 World Food Championships and IADT Give Students a Chance to Win Scholarships
The World Food Championships (WFC) is partnering with International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) Las Vegas, to offer students a chance to win one of three $1,000 scholarships for photography, videography and design.
The $300,000 World Food Championships (Nov. 7-10) is the ultimate culinary showdown for 450 competitors, both professionals and amateurs. The seven-category competition takes place in downtown Las Vegas at Fremont Street Experience, Fremont East Entertainment District and Downtown3rd District. As an invitational, the World Food Championships invites winners of the world’s biggest food competitions to cook in a tournament-style live competition for a chance to be named the World Food Champion.
Organizers of the World Food Championships are partnering with IADT to tap into students’ specific design and technical skills to support the event’s massive needs for video and photo documentation, as well as graphic design. “This is an amazing opportunity for IADT Las Vegas students,” said Jason Smith, president of IADT Las Vegas. “They get on-the-job experience utilizing their photo, video and graphic design skills while working as an integral part of the team that organizes the world’s largest food competition. Beyond the experience, students have a chance to win scholarships to further their education at IADT. We are delighted to partner with the World Food Championships in Las Vegas.”
Judging for the IADT student competition includes three major components: Engagement, Artistry and Technical or E.A.T. The acronym E.A.T. mirrors the WFC’s judging methodology that all competitor entries will be judged upon during the culinary competition. IADT Students are asked to create dynamic photos, videos and designs that feature compelling and memorable messages and footage of the event. The creators of the competition’s best works, as determined by representatives of the World Food Championships, will earn the $1,000 scholarships and be featured in a 2014 student contest winner profile.
The video production and photo contests require students to submit either a five-minute reel or 30 photos showcasing the energy and diversity of the 2013 World Food Championships through shots of the main stage, competition and vending areas, interviews and sponsor branding. For the design project contest, students are asked to submit designs for five categories: a T-shirt design and poster for the WFC, a T-shirt design and standard billboard ad for the Ultimate Bacon Experience and a local business flyer.
