Long and Scott Structures a Sweet Corn Build for 2015 World Food Championships

Long & Scott Farms has teamed up with the 2015 World Food Championships for a sweet Fresh Category challenge. Opening Round competitors are busy developing sauce, condiment or relish secret recipes for the structured build using Scott’s Zellwood Triple Sweet Gourmet Corn™.

“Long & Scott has an impressive history of growing fresh produce, including their incomparable sweet corn,” said Mike McCloud, CEO of the World Food Championships. “We look forward to tasting the creative spin that Fresh Category competitors will bring to this challenging category-required build.”

Long and Scott Farms is a 1,200-acre operation located in Mt. Dora, Fla., that started in 1963 when a childhood friend encouraged Frank Scott Jr. to leave his family farm in Virginia and start farming in Florida. 

“Long & Scott is that rare commodity in farming,” acknowledged Hank Scott, Frank Scott’s son.“ We’re a family farm with generations of siblings minding fields of our corn, pickling cucumbers and both red and green cabbage and other produce. We know that the closer the farm is to your table, the richer the flavors, the more vibrant the colors and the more nutritious the forkful.”

Scott said he’s eager to see how the world-class competitors use their corn to create imaginative presentations that continue to bring future generations to the Long & Scott table.

McCloud said there’s yet another investment toward the future resulting from the World Food Championships. Long & Scott Farms and WFC will be contributing to a culinary scholarship fund through collaborative partnerships with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

“It is in the DNA of both organizations to secure the future of the culinary arts,” McCloud said. “It is especially gratifying to be doing it with a fresh focus straight from the family farm of Long & Scott.”
