Healthy, Fast, 'Fresh from Florida' Announced Recipe Winners

Celebration, Fla. – Winners of the “Healthy, Fast, ‘Fresh from Florida’ Challenge” have been announced by the World Food Championships. Louis Robinson, Rochele Vincent and Sherri Williams have been named the finalists and will now compete on Friday, Nov. 6, in Celebration, Fla., starting at 2pm, across from the Main Stage in the World Chef Challenge Arena at the World Food Championships for a chance to win $2500.

Louis Robinson won for his Florida Fresh Aqua Chile

Rochele Vincent was selected for her Florida Citrus Shrimp Lettuce Wrap

Sherri Williams got the nod for her Poached Chicken and Carambola Rice Bowl

Jointly sponsored by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Florida Department of Health, the “Healthy Fast, ‘Fresh from Florida’ Challenge” and the World Food Championships, challenged Florida residents to submit their best recipe of under 500 calories, no added salt, contain a protein source and include food items of at least three colors with two foods representing the ‘Fresh From Florida’ label.

Recipes were reviewed by award-winning championship competitive food athletes and by dietitians and experts in nutrition. The three top winners will now meet in the World Chef Arena for the head-to-head challenge where they will prepare their recipes for judges who will score the food based on the EAT Methodology of Food Sport. EAT awards point for Execution of a recipe, Appearance of a presentation plate and the all-important aspect of Taste.

“We are extremely excited to be able to provide a forum for innovative cooks and Chefs in Florida to develop innovative recipes that they then have a chance to demonstrate in a live competition in the World Chef Arena at the 2015 Championships,” said Mike McCloud, CEO of World Food Championships.

“This healthy challenge is a testament to the fact that wonderful food can also be really healthy food,” he continued.

The Challenge included a requirement that the recipe had to take 5 minutes or less of active cooking to get the finished product onto the table.

“Healthy cooking doesn’t have to be a time-consuming effort,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong. “This challenge shows just how easy it is to put together a healthy meal fast and how the healthy food choice can become the easy choice for families in the Sunshine State.”

“This competition provides a fun way for Floridians to engage in making good dietary decisions, which improves health and gives children the fuel they need to excel in the classroom,” stated Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam. “Florida’s agriculture industry provides an abundance of healthy foods that people can find at their local grocery stores—just look for the ‘Fresh From Florida’ label
