Port A Qualifies “Super Chefs” for Big Run in Dallas at the World Food Championships

The Texas Super Chef Throwdown Series was a sizzlin’ success in Port A this past weekend, where Texas chefs descended upon local restaurants and venues to prove their culinary chops as they battled for a spot to compete at the World Food Championships (WFC) this October in Dallas.

“This was the most talented and impressive group of chefs we’ve seen yet,” commented Jeff Hentz, president of the Port A Chamber and the driver behind the Series, which was started in 2018. “Both local and state-wide chefs proved how great the culinary talent is in Texas. In fact, we believe they will represent Port A and Texas in a very successful way at the World event in Dallas.”

There were three sections of winners at the Texas Super Chef Throwdown Series, which occurred over four days and used seven Port Aransas venues. More than 70 chefs applied for the series in hopes to win a WFC Golden Ticket to qualify into this year’s Ultimate Food Fight set for Oct. 16-20 at Reunion Tower Lawn. The winners include:

Other members of Team Texas, who earned their way into WFC through previous competitions include Chef Gail Huesmann, Chef Ty Frazier, Tina Crutchfield, Chef Keith Browning, and Chef Jeffrey Kolinger.

Team Texas will now compete at the 8th Annual World Food Championships, which will occur at the Reunion Tower Lawn in downtown Dallas October 16-20. More than 500 teams from 40+ states and almost 20 countries will be vying for their share of over $350,000 of cash in ten categories.
